Fumigation/irradiation/treatment of imported herbs and spices:
“Are your imported herbs and spices irradiated or treated once they arrive in Australia?”

At Gourmet Organic Herbs we purchase only certified organic materials, both locally and internationally, and we are a Certified Organic wholesaler with Australian Certified Organic (ACO) No. 10541W. Organic Certification does not allow the irradiation or fumigation of any product, which is also monitored through our certifier’s auditing processes.

The certification process also ensures that there is a traceable channel of organic status from ‘paddock to plate’. Therefore, the presence of a certification logo on our packaging is your assurance that all ingredients within the product are truly Organic.

Sourcing of our Herbs and Spices
"Where do you source your herbs and spices from?"

We endeavour to support Australian grown produce wherever possible, although some materials are difficult to source from local growers. All of our leaf herbs (Oregano, Basil, Parsley, Rosemary, Thyme, Marjoram, etc.) are all supplied to us by a grower based in the Grampians region in Victoria. All of our spices are sourced from various certified organic overseas suppliers.

Being Certified Organic
"What does it mean for a product to be certified organic?"

When food produce is grown using organic principles it means that the farmer has taken care to support the health of the soils and conditions where the produce is grown to ensure that there will be no need for artificial fertilizers or pesticides.

When Organic Certification is involved it means that the farmer is following the guidelines set out by the certifying body to ensure that all of the appropriate procedures are followed and that there is a traceable channel of organic status from 'paddock to plate'.

We as processors/producers of Certified Organic products also have Organic Certification to ensure that this guarantee is strengthened as we follow the guidelines given to us by our Certifying body. As a consumer, you need to look out for the Organic Certification logo on products as your guarantee that the appropriate procedures have been followed.
